MEDICAL AND HEALTH

Kenya is the leading economy in the greater East and Central African region, at times trading places with Ethiopia (source UNECA).

In 2021, our GDP was $110.3bio having grown at a steady rate of 5.9% over 5 years. At the same time population was at 47.6mio 50.5% of which was female. 75.1% were below 35 years and 68.9% lived in the rural areas.

Kenya’s economic growth has resulted in a drop in the poverty rate from 46% in 2005/6 to 36% in 2015/16 (Source IFC).

The Kenyan market is 70% GT and 30% MT.

Within our vision for healthcare and pharmaceuticals, we have three areas of focus; curative medicine (drugs and medtec), preventative medicine (vaccines) and preventative healthcare (nutraceuticals and baby care).

Whereas the pharmaceutical market is well defined across channels and estimated at $1.2bio a year in Kenya, the medical devices market is growing at a faster rate 8.2% CAGR and is expected to be $198m by 2026. It is equally reliant on importation due to limitations in local manufacturing and access to raw materials. Nonetheless, China, Germany and India lead as sources for the Kenyan market with South Africa leading as the only African source in the top 10.

With Kenya’s Universal Health Access program, there has been increased investment in private hospitals making Kenya the leading medical tourism destination across Eastern Africa. According to the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI), NCDs such as cancers, diabetes, and others account for 27% of total deaths and over 50% of total hospital admissions.

Xenum Group Africa is an innovative out of this world Kenyan company comprising of doer-dreamers, all experts in their respective fields.

Our aim is to positively impact our societies and communities whilst enabling our economies to develop exponentially.

ONCOLOGY

Cancer is a scourge that has affected every one in Kenya.

Survivability increases with early detection, for cervical cancer, to as much as 96%, without which it falls to 5%.

Only 1% of Kenya’s 16m women at risk of contracting cervical cancer get screened each year.

Our efforts aim to increase this number to at least 20% in 2 years.

PEDIATRICS

Children are at most risk health-wise at an early age, under 5.

At this age, almost any disease can adversely affect a child's health.

Kenya and the greater Eastern Africa are tropical disease endemic, some of which are categorized as neglected.

Communicable diseases also adversely affect children at this age.

Our aim is to significantly reduce child mortality through our CSR program, emergency rescue services or via commercialization of affordable and quality medication.

MEDICINE

Trading And Manufacturing Of Medicine Kenya

XGP has interests in trading and manufacturing of medicine in Nairobi, Kenya.

Our strategy employs a dual-pronged approach.

1. Modular manufacturing

An innovative approach to the manufacturing of pharmaceuticals whereby one makes precisely what the market requires in smaller batches, guided by predictive software that utilizes market and public data to estimate which drugs will be needed, at which point in time, within an area.

With this approach, our manufacturing capability is limited to anthelminthics, antifungals, antimalarial drugs and specialist medication.

This capability has been enabled by a partnership with Kemet Advanced Manufacturing, an innovative Canadian pharmaceutical manufacturer.

2. Extensive manufacturing

XGP intends to carry out intensively extensive manufacturing of various pharmaceutical drugs in Kenya.

This will be done at a larger facility.

The scope of research and development and manufacturing will be limitless.

Trading in medicine

We have forged partnerships with American, Canadian, Jordanian, ASEAN and Indian manufacturers to trade in their medicine in the Eastern African region.

Such partnerships are contingent upon the manufacturer's readiness to register their own products with the Pharmacies and Poisons Board of Kenya. Our interest is in the commercial operationalization of the partnerships. Similarly, we have a keen interest in trading in medical devices and biotechnology under similar terms.

CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

Breast Cancer and Screening Unit

Lasting positive impact can only be enabled when a business explores a separate firm agenda towards impeccable corporate citizenship.

In this regard, XGP has focused on two key services.

Breast Cancer and Screening Unit

FREE CANCER SCREENINGS

Through the utilization of a mobile clinic, XGP is dedicated to providing complimentary breast, cervical, and prostate cancer screenings to underserved communities across Eastern Africa.

While certain government facilities do offer free cancer screenings to some extent, these services are often underutilized by the population. This can be attributed to the fact that hospital visits in Eastern Africa are typically purpose-driven, with limited impulse utilization of healthcare services.

Furthermore, existing screening methods are perceived as invasive or painful by individuals. Invasive and uncomfortable procedures such as pap smears and colposcopy exams are employed for cervical cancer screening. Painful and uncomfortable methods such as PSA blood tests and digital rectal exams are utilized for prostate cancer screening. Additionally, breast cancer screenings often involve the placement of a heavy weight on the breasts through mammography or breast MRI.

XGP addresses these concerns by implementing non-invasive urine tests for prostate exams, thermal imaging for breast cancer screening, and self-test kits for cervical cancer screening. These less invasive and more user-friendly approaches significantly enhance people's willingness to undergo these screenings.

The ultimate outcome is the early detection of these cancers, leading to improved chances of survival. Early detection of cervical cancer, for instance, increases survivability up to 95%, whereas late detection reduces it to a mere 5%.

FREE MEDICINE FOR REFUGEE CHILDREN

Through our innovative modular manufacturing process, we have the capability to produce approximately one million doses of Albendazole 400mg. These doses are intended to be distributed free of charge to children residing in refugee camps.

The primary refugee camps in Kenya, namely Kakuma in Turkana and Dadaab near the Kenya-Somalia border, are the focal points for this initiative.

International agencies have made significant efforts to ensure the health of refugees, which is highly commendable. However, the need for support remains constant, and collaboration is essential to effectively address the existing gaps.

In our own unique way, we aim to complement their work by providing high-quality deworming medication to children, contributing to their overall well-being.

It is important to note that the success of this initiative relies on the generosity of donors. Furthermore, upon special request, this corporate social responsibility (CSR) program is also extended to children in other areas visited by our mobile clinic, where free cancer screenings are conducted.
